Description

xxxxxThe construction of this waterfront condo in the Lower East Side ground to a halt after Hurricane Sandy. Since, a group of punks have taken it over and converted it to one of the more impressive squats in the city. From outside, the building is wildly colorful, covered with massive interlocking murals. The roof supports a thriving urban farm with a sizeable greenhouse and beehives, while the apartments below are homes to both long- and short-term residents, who are encouraged but not actually required to contribute supplies, income, and labor to the community. The cavernous lobby has no glass, but has become a partially indoor skate park/playground, including a rather popular free-running circuit. Dogs and cats and children wander the grounds, shamelessly soliciting food and attention from any who will give it.

Residents
  • Earthworm (NPC): Tiny-tiny white woman with pink hair and a nose ring. Very excitable when it comes to tending the greenhouses, very antsy whenever there is conflict. Often tries to step in and resolve disputes in the squat; usually attempts this by telling people to be less angry.
  • Johnny Apathy (NPC): Skinny tall white mohawk'd punk of the really-studded-leather-jacket variety. Drinks too much, is angry a lot, though rarely at individual people and more at The World. Capitalism. The Man. Probably he wants to smash things with you.
  • M (NPC): Short fat strong Japanese person of ambiguous gender. Paints a lot of walls, both at the squat and out in the city. Put a lot of work into building this squat up originally and is kind of protective of keeping it stably running even when they are fed up with everyone in it, which is not infrequently. Likes all the dogs and cats better than most all the people.

Notes & Trivia
  • There's not really a formal system for being allowed or denied residency here -- if there's free room, show up and someone will show you where you can crash and that's about it. If you are disrespectful to other people there, they'll kick you out.
  • Disrespectful includes flagrantly overusing resources without contributing anything, though there's not really a formal evaluation of that either, so it's all pretty much just decided by community consensus. For the most part if you are polite and keep to yourself you'll be fine; if you're polite and contribute to the community you'll also be fine. If you start (...too many) fights or eat everyone's food or steal people's shit you won't last long.
  • Given that it's pretty much just an open squat the level of mutant friendliness depends largely on who is staying there at the time, but the punks who started the place -- while not being the #1 champions of mutant rights or anything -- have a vested interest in keeping things civil, at least. If there is open hostility they make an attempt to mediate it. Depending on who is mediating that may mean actually resolving the issue or just telling everyone to shut up and suck it up so YMMV.
