Mai's Apartment - Chinatown

It is very early in the morning, Mai should still be sleeping, but there is one thing that she must do, while her new room mate isn't awake yet. She feels kind of bad having to do this secretly like this, but the whole reason for doing it so she can let go of the secrets. She always knew that she was lonely, but she would have never thought what kind of an impact it would have to actually have someone to talk with, it doesn't even matter what they talk about, even if it is something completely silly like debating over a plot point or character portrayal in a movie, it has been less than a week since Paige moved to live with her and she has already found that she is even putting lot more effort into making food simply because there is someone else she is making it also, just because she is curious about what they will think about it.

There is however one thing that she can't talk with Paige about, or anyone else for that matter, and thus she is now making she does not have to, by getting rid of the one thing that her friend might find that would indicate Mai had anything to do with said matter, which is the mind map plan that she made awhile back. There is only one part of it which she saves, which is the names and addresses of the last two people, which she writes down to a piece of paper, in mandarin just to be sure, tossing the paper slip into a drawer of her nightstand among various other similar paper slips of various topics. That is done just in case she will at some point change her mind, although she thinks, hopes even, it will not happen.

Picking up a pair of scissors then, Mai carefully cuts the entire paper diodrama in two, several times, cutting it into as many pieces as she can easily manage. She is visibly relaxing as she does that, there is also another, more symbolical, but equally important reason for her doing this, even though she is not sure if she would have got the push to it if not for Paige, which is to really cement her earlier decision to let go of her plans, of her past, and move on. As she carefully gathers every single shred of paper the first rays of the morning sun start to shine through the blinders of the window, she slowly turns her gaze up to look at them, and, for the first time in long time, smiles, looking towards the coming day with hope.

She is broken out of her thoughts as she can hear Paige starting to wake up at the other side of the sliding door that separates Mai's bedroom from the rest of her apartment, gathering herself up from the floor she was sitting on, and stuffing the paper scraps to a pocket of her jacket, she will dispose of those on her way to work today, across several recycle bins she will walk past. Now it is time to make breakfast, for two! If only Paige would know just how much she has helped Mai, she wishes she could ever find a way to repay even a small fragment of it back to her friend, but whether she can or not, that wont stop her from trying, every day. It is so great to not be alone.
