Strange doings in the night.

Location

<NYC> Doug's Apartment - Little Italy

In the deep dark of the early, early morning, a blonde young man slumbers peacefully, eased into that state with the help of some marvelous pharmeceuticals.

Two figures watch the young man slumber. Finally, one speaks in a low voice.

“You're going to end up killing him like the other guy.”

“Oh, well. There'll be other applicants.”

“I thought the whole point of this was /this/ applicant. The other guy was a test subject, right?”

A pause. “Maybe. I haven't decided yet.”

“What does /that/ mean? I thought Ramsey was the target.”

“He is. His father has this coming. I'm just not sure this won't have other applications.”

"/Other/ applications? What th --"

"Be quiet." In the bed, the sleeper shifts. The two shadows hold their breath until he settles again. Then, a hypodermic filled with a clear fluid glints in the light coming through the window from the street. There's a hiss from the first figure.

“Jesus. I thought we decided to dope him through his food.”

“Results are inconsistent through oral administration. Direct injection into the bloodstream should be more stable.”

“He'd better not die. That last guy...his head...I don't want to clean that up again.”

A press of needle into flesh, and a sigh from the slumbering young man.

“He won't die. I used his own genetic markers to make this.” A soft laugh at the other's distaste, and the needle is capped and tucked away. “Lucky the zombies made that clean up easy.”

“It was still gross.”

“Yeah.”

“So he's not going to die? For sure?” Anxious.

“For sure.” Confident.

“Can we get out of here, now?”

“Yeah.”
