Introduction

xxxxxVery aptly nicknamed Atlas by his friends, Evan does look like he could carry the world upon his shoulders. The young man stands well over six feet at only sixteen years, and obvious bodybuilding pursuits have filled him out with bulk. That said, looks can be deceiving, as he's known to be a friendly youth open to helping his peers and succeeding in academics as much as athletics. More interesting is the fact that he uses a variation of Scott Summers' visor, with his own having two dials instead of one and no apparent portion dedicated to sight. He appears to be blind, either genuinely or due to the device.

History

xxxxxEvan comes from a lower class family native to Manchester, New York. Things were always tight, with the difference between home and homelessness being one firing away. However, the family always managed to hold together. As a boy, Evan was already unusually large, but otherwise conducted himself as a good student who caused little trouble for others. No doubt, his size played a part in that, effective as it was at warding off career bullies.

xxxxxWhen puberty came around, Evan was charged with that burst of testosterone which makes one grow and changes one's ways. He took up bodybuilding and, in large part to the masculine image he wished to project at the time, did not confess that he was having troubles hinting at the early manifestation of his X-Gene. His entire body itched for no apparent reason, particularly his stunning cobalt blue eyes.

xxxxxShortly after his twelfth birthday, the X-Gene fully awoke. Evan's itching problem disappeared, but only because a most troubling mutation had at last wormed its way to the surface. Little is publicly known about how his mutation works, but whether he was blinded or not in that moment, everything he directed his eyes upon turned permanently to granite. As well, he became able to shapeshift portions or all of his body into up to ten varieties of minerals he'd mentally scanned for at least an hour, some granting him great resilience and strength.

xxxxxIt wasn't long thereafter that Evan arrived at Xavier's School under a full scholarship. What happened with his family isn't a matter for discussion with most people, and he rarely even speaks of them. It seems to be Evan's preference to consider his peers and teachers to be his friends. It was thanks to Professor Xavier and his technological cohorts that a visor based upon Scott Summers' own was developed, made of a special alloy capable of containing his petrifying gaze more reliably than eyelids. He was given some semblance of a normal, safe life back, and he's been taking advantage to the fullest in his school life. The ways in which he's been helped at Xavier's have even inspired an interest in teaching, himself.

Powers

xxxxxPetrifying Gaze: As much a handicap as a power, Evan's eyes cause whatever he is looking at to turn permanently to granite. The effect can be focused to a degree, or entirely cut off, by how he adjusts his eyelids. The scientific workings of this mutation are kept a secret of the School, but suffice to say, he never removes a special visor made for him and based off of Scott Summers' design. Evan's visor has two dials, rather than one, but is made from a black metal and seems to have no segment for sight. He may be truly blind, or it may be a voluntary blindness enforced by the device.

xxxxxGeokinetics: Evan is capable of mentally scanning up to ten minerals and retaining their molecular patterns in his mind. He can then transform parts of himself, or his entire body, into a mobile copy of any such mineral. The young man has certain favorites he always seems to keep, such as diamond and iron, but he has an extensive collection of geological samples from which to draw upon. One never knows when a particular mineral might turn out to be useful.

Skills

xxxxxAcademics: Evan is a well-rounded academic for his age, having always devoted himself to getting good grades, a task which he now takes seriously as a way of thanking Professor Xavier. He has something to offer on most any subject up to what one would study at his age, and even more in the fields of anatomy and geology. Typically, Evan is happy to answer questions or to assist peers with their studies.

xxxxxBlindness: Not a skill in itself, but rather, the other skills he's had to learn in order to deal with apparently being blind. Evan can fluently read braille, and appears to have learned to use his senses to draw as much a picture of the world as he can. In particular, he keeps track of people around him by way of his keen senses of hearing and touch.

xxxxxBodybuilding: An early habit of Evan's which has persisted into the present is bodybuilding. This became particularly evident when puberty gave him a major growth spurt and he bulked out. It's no wonder he's nicknamed Atlas among friends. Anyone looking for an exercise partner would find him worthy. Furthermore, the practice has granted Evan above average knowledge of human anatomy. He knows various points which, if damaged or struck, would stun or even cripple a target.

xxxxxGeology: Evan has an interest in geology for obvious reasons, considering his mutation. However, that fascination actually goes back to his very early childhood, when he began collecting all manner of metals and minerals. To this day, he retains a very large and well-organized collection for scanning purposes. Geology's one of those things he knows more about than anyone should at his age, and he'd probably make a fine teacher on the subject. For now, though, the best he can do is tutor his peers.

Academics - Grades first, fun second. Breaking the athletic stereotype, Evan has always been a good student and generally knows something about everything taught up to his grade level. In the case of anatomy and geology, even more. He's most always happy to help tutor his peers.
Bodybuilding - Fellow body sculptor? You might fit right in with Evan, who is rightly nicknamed Atlas for his great height and physique.
Geology - Ever since he was a boy, Evan had a fascination with crystals, metals, stones. He keeps a collection to this day, most prominently of the last. They are, it is said, somehow related to his geokinetic mutations. He is more than just a budding geologist and might well have a future in the field.
Martial Arts - Evan has been a student of Kung Fu for six years and is quite good at it. Needless to say, given his size alone, one probably wouldn't wish to take a hit from him dealt in anger. Doubly true when one considers his extensive anatomical knowledge from bodybuilding. That said, he very much enjoys a friendly spar.
Mild Shyness - Often, people make assumptions about Evan due either to his size or to his implied blindness. This has left him a bit shy, especially when he wishes to truly know close friends, coming to visualize them by touching their faces. He can be made to open up, given enough willingness.
Protector - Evan values human life deeply, his friends in particular, and would risk himself to protect both. When danger is closing in and the odds are against oneself, one couldn't ask for a finer ally in battle.
Visored - Much like Scott Summers, AKA Cyclops, Evan wears a specialized visor at all times. His appears to be of different make, utilizing a black metal and apparently enforcing blindness. Whether he is truly blind or not is for each student to learn, but he does practice fluent braille and uses screen readers with computers. That said, his other senses still serve him very well, particularly his hearing and touch.
