<XS> - Gardens | |
From indoor gardens to outdoor, though without the protective greenhouse glass the back gardens do not last all year round. Still, the gardens out here are well-tended and well-worth spending time in, as well. The paths wending through the beds of flowers and herbs and vegetables spread out through the school's back grounds, tended by students as a credit class. Benches offer seating and a small pond is home to koi and turtles, as well as a few frogs. At the far back edges of the garden, a droning buzzing marks a few stacked white boxes as beehives. Marinov wanders the school grounds in the evening, wearing a peacoat and black slacks, but otherwise not particularly dressed up for the cold (possibly due to having a natural fur coat to keep warm). The youth has come out with a few purposes in mind: To get some fresh air and escape the cramped and tense environment of the school, but also to search for someone to talk to. The teen sniffs the air lightly, approaching one of the greenhouses to start the search. Ororo is indeed in one of the greenhouses, wearing a simple sweater and slacks against the cold. Her eyes white, she appears focused, though not unapproachable, as she controls a miniture storm system floating above vegetable patch. Her hands held out in front, she moves them with determined flicks and motions, controlling the rain flow, temperature, and air pressure as the 'storm' waters the patch. Marinov slips into the greenhouse, stepping lightly and quietly without really much thinking about it. The teen looks up towards the little storm, though, and lets out an audible gasp at such a fantastic sight! Realizing that the sound was audible, Tay quickly offers a greeting: "Privyet," to announce their presence, eyes still locked on the mini weather pattern. At the sound, Ororo turns toward Marinov and offers a warm smile. With a wave of her hand, all trace of the storm suddenly vanishes from the air and simultaneously, the color returns to her eyes. "Privyet," she responds in turn, before switching to sign language. 'Did you need something?' "Ah," says Marinov, switching then to sign language as well, 'Yes. I wanted to talk to someone I had an idea about. I don't know who to talk to, but I want to do some hunting for the school. I am not really familiar with it, but since my abilities manifested and since I've been kind of extra hungry lately with the shortages, I've kind of got the need to go out and hunt.' The teen fidgets a bit after signing that last bit, before continuing, 'But it could get me out of the frankly cramped place. And my senses are really strong. I don't really like the idea of hurting animals, I used to be a vegetarian before my dietary needs changed. But I think I could actually help.' Ororo listens to Marinov's idea, nodding along thoughtfully. 'Yes, quite a few students have taken up hunting to provide for the school. Staff and guests also. We've been allowing hunting expeditions with staff supervision but," she pauses her signing to glance over Marinov's obvious physical mutations, "I'm not sure what the policy is if guns aren't needed. Let me get back to you on that. Or email C-E-R-E-B-R-O.' The comment about formerly being a vegetarian gets a knowing smile and nod. 'Morality is a complicated thing. Do whatever makes you comfortable. But any help you can provide would be appreciated.' 'Yeah, I feel weird about it. I've never wanted to kill an animal before. Sometimes I've wanted to hurt people, but never an animal. And now I have to eat meat or I barf. What's fair about that?' signs Marinov, before huffing a bit irritably. 'I'll email C-E-R-E-B-R-O, but if you hear something back before I get a reply, I'd like that. I know that I can pull my weight and I know I'm just a student, but I should be doing something other than grinding my teeth and being irritable. I won't need a gun or anything. And I have a really strong sense of smell.' 'I don't anyone actually enjoys the killing of the animal,' Ororo signs, slowly to give herself time to think. 'It's a big world and every creature has its role. And sometimes that role is to give nourishment to other creatures.' She smiles warmly to Marinov and shakes her head. 'You are not just a student. You have a gift and part of this school's mission is to teach you how to use your gift. This semester has just been a bit...more hands on.' Ororo tilts her head to the side, thinking a moment before resuming, 'If you would like to avoid killing, I'm sure you could find a hunting group grateful for your tracking abilities.' Marinov nods a few times slowly in response to Ororo's statement, 'Sorry. I've only been a mutant or whatever for a couple of months now. Not even. And it's been hard adjusting. I'm used to being different, just not... this different. I wasn't really sure what the school would want me to use my talents for.' The teen fiddles with their hair lightly for a second or two before starting to sign some more. 'I'd be okay providing my tracking abilities. But I think I can hunt on my own. Maybe bring one person along for second eyes. It would be more efficient. I'm quieter than most groups of people are.' 'Yes, we tend to acclimate our students better but it's been an odd year,' Ororo signs, nodding with a flat smile. 'But welcome and my door is always open if you need to talk about anything. I know getting used to being a mutant is challenging and even scary. But we've all done it and once you've accepted it, you'll learn to love your abilities.' Ororo leans over to briefly examine a plant, though she continues to watch the feline for any more signs. 'If that's what you want to do then I'm certain something can be arranged. In the meantime, you're more than welcome to go out for walks in the forest and if a creature were to just happen to cross your path...well, I'm sure no one would question the source too much.' This is signed with a sly grin and quick wink. 'Thank you, that helps a lot,' admits Marinov, 'I was just worried that if I went out and did something about the kind of... instinct feelings I have, I guess, that I'd get in trouble. Even though I think that I can really help.' The teen pauses a moment and then says, 'By the way, your little rain cloud was incredible. I've never seen anything like that. It's like a B-O-N-S-A-I storm!' Ororo smiles brightly at the compliment. 'Thank you. The benefit of many years of practice. Though it has it's drawbacks.' Marinov's concerns get a nod, Ororo pausing to carefully examine a leaf before responding. 'You will never get in trouble for being who you are. As long as you're careful.' 'Drawbacks? I guess I already know some of the drawbacks I've got now. Dr. McCoy is my advisor type person, and he's good, I imagine he can sorta relate to where I'm at, but it seems like most kids at the school have some kind of drawbacks from it,' signs Marinov, resting back against one of the tables with plants on it. 'I will be careful. And I have the panic button I can use if I need. When the kid from my class, the teleporter, attacked... I guess it wasn't him anymore. But someone came right away to help, so that's something.' 'Mutations are always a struggle. It's a matter of taking the good with the bad and learning to coexist peacefully.' Ororo nods thoughtfully. 'Doctor McCoy is good. Very studious, don't let him see your grades slip. A bit long-winded at times. Don't tell him I said that.' The mention of the panic button gets an audible 'ahhh' of agreement. 'When in doubt, use it. We want to help you. Too many students get hurt because they don't want teachers involved. We'd rather you ask for help when needed.' 'Yeah Doctor McCoy is really smart. But kind of intimidating. I don't always understand him, because he is too far smarter than me,' admits Marinov, 'I've never been an above average student. And he seems like he's always been top of every class.' The felinoid teen shrugs lightly, 'Yeah, I'll use the panic button when I need to. This whole zombie thing scares me. I get nightmares about that kid. So I'm not above admitting that I need help there.' |
