It's the middle of the day and a few students are hanging out at the lake. It's pretty obvious most people have separated off into clicks, except of course for Kaine, who's floating in the middle of the lake on a recliner made of ice, wearing one of his notoriously tiny swimming trunks. He lets out a content sigh before rolling off the raft (which turns into snow and melts) and swimming up to the shore. Liv walks towards the lake, already wearing a one piece silver swim suit, flip-flops, and sunglasses, a towel draped over her shoulders. Despite her apparel, she doesn't appear to be headed towards the lake any time soon, instead finding a nice patch of grass to lay her towel on and she sits down, leaning back to people watch. Kaine arrives on the shore and gives a stretch, the water covering him runs off and makes it's way back into the lake. After a cursory glance his attention settles on Liv. He takes a moment to tug the band from his wrist and throw his hair up in a sloppy bun before making his way and sitting down not to far from the other teen. "Yo, haven't seen you around before. How's it going?" Liv looks up as Kaine approaches, smiling and removing her sunglasses. "Hey!" she greets pleasantly, made all the more friendly with a southern accent. "Yeah, I'm new here, only been here a few weeks. I'm pretty good, enjoying the nice weather while it lasts. Oh!" She quickly holds out her hand. "Name is Liv. Kaine reaches out to take the hand in a firm shake, flashing an easy smile of his own. "I'm Kaine. Enjoying it here?" His own accent is a bit vague, definitely far North. "And it's been entirely too hot, but I guess that's a trade off for me being comfortable when it's freezing out." "Hot? I thought it was almost cool," Liv laughs. "Yeah, I've been enjoying it. Looking forward to classes starting though. Though I suppose this slow time before classes gives me enough time to check everything out. Get to know the school and people." "I tap out around eighty, it's terrible. But while everybody was dying during the winter I was wearing t-shirts." Kaine lifts his shoulders in a slight shrug. "I don't really hang out with people, to be honest. Usually just drag Jack into the city for stuff, the only person that would go with me to get my piercings, even though he hates needles. Wish he was visible sometimes, because I bet he was green after I got my PA." "Ah, Jack, the invisible guy! Yeah, I met him, he's cool. And 80 is great! It's cozy. What're you from Alaska or something?" Liv takes a brief moment to look Kaine over as he mentions piercings. "Oh? What kind? Can't say I blame him, needles are...unpleasant." " "Actually, yeah. From the bush." Kaine confirms with a slight nod. "And my mutation was originally just cryokinesis, but moved on to include water and the obvious parts." He motions towards his gills. "But piercings, just my ears, septum, and the one that freaked Jack out the most, a genital piercing. It was hilarious." Liv is suddenly at a loss for words, her jaw dropping slightly. "A gen-genit...piercing, down there, on your...bless my soul," she stammers, before suddenly turning pink and facing the water. "Cryo huh. That's cool. Sorry, didn't mean to pun. And gills, can you breathe underwater then?" "Yeah, my septum hurt worse though." Kaine doesn't seem too bothered with Liv being uncomfortable, it's probably a usual response. "And it definitely is, and I can. But not in the pool, the chemicals burn." "Ooh, yeah, pool chemicals are rough. Don't spend much time at waterparks then, huh. What about saltwater, does that burn at all?" Liv turns back to face Kaine as her uncomfortableness begins to subside. "So your power is being the world's best lifeguard?" "Oh yeah, salt water is fine. As long as the area isn't polluted." Kaine reaches up to run the back of his hand across his face from where he's already began to sweat, before placing his palms on the ground behind himself and leaning back. "I like to think my power is being the best at pretty much everything." He teases with a slight wink. About that time snow begins to drift lazily down onto him, sticking to his hair. "Really? I've swam in both pools and ocean and I tell you, when it comes to accidentally snorting water up your nose, I'll take chlorine any day. But gills might be different." Liv catches the snowfall out of the corner of her eye and jumps in surprise before grinning excitedly. "Snow! Y'know, I actually haven't seen that much snow. I guess I get to look forward to that here, too." She tentatively holds out her hand and catches a few flakes, watching in amazement as they melt in her hand. "Too cool." "Plenty of snow here, made an igloo when I got here. I mean, I still probably could, but I'd definitely take a nap afterwards." Kaine can't help but grin a little bit at Liv's reaction to the snow. "So what's your mutation?" "It's much more fun to show you," Liv says, grinning playfully as she sits up straight on her towel. She holds a hand out over the grass and within a few seconds, three strands of grass stand straight up on end and begin growing in length. As if on strings, they also twist and turn as the grow and it becomes obvious they are braiding themselves. Once a good five inches is achieved, two of the strands fade into different colors, one purple and one red, just for fun. "Right, anything more than that and I might need a nap," Liv finally says, lowering her hand and letting the grass braid limp onto the ground. "That's fucking cool." Kaine reaches down to touch the braid before focusing his attention on Liv once more. "Lot of combat applications, depending on the situation. But, plenty for mine too." As if on cue water droplets form in the air around Kaine and Liv, lengthening and freezing into spikes. They slowly circle the pair before flying (rather quickly) into the ground around them and melting. "Though hopefully we won't need to use them for it." "I know. I've spent a -lot- of time playing around and studying my abilities. But it...it feels weird using my powers for combat. I mean, I know it can happen and I'm not saying I wouldn't use them for self defense or another good reason but it's just...weird." Liv sighs and shrugs as she rips the braided grass out of the ground to look at it closer. "Besides, I'm not that useful. Grass is really simple so it's no problem but I get tired out easy. I was playing around and helped lift someone up and into their wheelchair. That took a lot of wind out of me." Liv watches in fascination as Kaine continues to manipulate the water droplets around them. "I can make full body armor, but I can't do anything else for a bit afterwards. Better to just use bits and pieces. It doesn't feel weird, really just worried about hurting somebody. I mean, like I hunt. And I'm a /real/ good shot. But I wouldn't shoot somebody. Unless it was the person that shot Jack with an arrow. Would go to jail over that shit." Kaine says with an annoyed snort. "Woah, wait...someone got shot with an arrow? How? Why?" Liv no longer seems concerned with their power show-and-tell and is now interested in this story, both from fascination and concern. "Bigots, and I'm pretty sure Mister Jax, who got shot too, was arrested for it. So, that's a lesson. Don't get attack if you're not human, because you'll go to jail for it too." The more Kaine talks, the angrier he sounds. "It's ridiculous." Liv frowns and shakes her head. "Wow. I...really don't know what to say. You always hear of these things..." She presses her lips together and sighs. "I guess I'm lucky I'm not visibly mutant then. At least...besides the hair. Still, it feels like it's not getting any better sometimes." "Because it isn't. Not sure how far the influence was spread, but a mutant was sending us visions of the future. Apparently even brought a handful of mutants into the future to help take out the giant robots the government was using to capture us and keep us in concentration camps." Kaine runs a hand across the top of his head before sighing. "Hopefully they figure out how to stop it, because that was only a few years from now." "Yeah, I did hear about that. Never got any of the dreams or knew anyone who did. Hard to believe it though. Especially the concentration camps." Liv taps her knee gently with her fingertips. "I thought they did prevent that future? At least...most of it. I guess there's always a chance something could still happen though." "I don't know anybody that personally experienced the dreams, except for Jack." Kaine admits with a slight shrug. "Just know I was already dead in the future, which is kinda unnerving." Liv gasps softly at the revelation of death. "Really? How did you find that out?" "More because I didn't have dreams in the traditional sense, just bits and pieces of Xavier's after it was blown up." Kaine doesn't seem really bothered by it. "Just know I'm going into New York proper instead of staying here." Liv shivers and looks down at the ground as the continue discussing the future. "That's...sad. Now I'm wondering where I was. Maybe I died, too. Gosh, I hope they did change the future." "Probably not." Kaine says with a slight shrug. "And I doubt it'll be anything like that now. So there's a good chance you'll already be graduated and working. Better to look at the short term, like how you're going to sneak out of my dorm." He shoots Liv a playful wink. Liv 's eyes dart up at the banter and she quickly blushes. "I guess there really is no point in worring about a future we probably can't help," she says, ignoring the insinuation for now. Kaine laughs a bit at the blush. "See, nothing gets you out of a funk better than a little dirty humor." He falls back onto the grass, resting his head on his arms. "Better to worry about the things in your life now than what negative stuff might come in the future." Liv attempts to hide her grin and appear offended as Kaine pokes fun at her blushing, though she doesn't do very well. "I'd like to remind you there are a LOT of poisonous plants in the word," she teases, clearing her throat in an attempt to look stern. "So...future. Hopefully it won't be as bad as it was." "And the planet is mostly water. Guess which we're closest to?" There is no venom to Kaine's voice and he looks up to shoot another wink Liv's way. "It shouldn't be, some of the smartest people I know are on it. Wouldn't be surprised if even Tony Stark got in on it, apparently they stole his designs to power the robots. And if I were him, I'd be pissed." Liv just sighs dramatically at Kaine's counter threat and lays down on her towel again, attempting to ignore him. Casually, she drapes her arm to the side, fiddling her hand around a bit. It doesn't take long to figure out what she's doing as a single blade of grass had somehow grown a thorn and crawled over to Kaine's hand to prick the palm. Not enough to break skin or draw blood but just enough to get his attention. Kaine swears under his breath and gives his hand a shake, but it doesn't take long to see what he's doing either. Especially because the water droplets rising out of the lake are far from subtle. They float over the teens and without ceremony they crash down and soak the pair. Mostly Liv. |
