<XS> Great Hall | |
The largest room at Xavier's, the Great Hall is designed to hold all of the mansion's residents and then some. Built for the mansion's bigger functions, it serves as the school's dining halls on ordinary days, and ballroom when needed. On school days, long trestle tables stretch across the hall, high-backed chairs with plush cushions offering seating for the students. It's dinner time at Xavier's, and a large portion of the students are milling around, heading from one place to another. It's as noisy as you might imagine a bunch of teenagers would be, but it only lasts a few moments before most of the students are gone wherever they may be heading, excluding a few groups of lingering kids. Kaine is heading into the great hall, rather than leaving it. He's not really dressed for the weather, sporting slim fitting jeans and a NOFX t-shirt. Snow clings to his hair, which is done up in a bun at the moment. The drowsy teenager pauses in the hall, gaze shifting about tiredly as he rubs at his jaw. Rasa heads into the Great Hall for dinner. Ze is dressed in loose, navy, sweat pants and a baggy long sleeved tee shirt that is decorated in Lisa Frank rainbows and unicorns in ridiculous neon colors. The shirt is more of a cut and paste project than a legitimately released tee. The teen's face looks a bit like ze stepped right off the cover of one of the 90s school supplies, hir features appearing a bit cartoonish with magenta and canary yellow hair. Ze heads past some of the milling people and goes over to the trestle tables on the side of the room and starts picking through the offerings. Ze opts for a hamburger. Kaine eventually heads that way too, ending up behind Rasa in line. "Hey." he offers quietly, almost sleepily. "Love your hair. Didn't see much color up in Alaska, been a good change of pace." Despite looking like he just woke, he does manage to flash hir a warm smile. "Oh, I'm always about a change of pace," Rasa offers quietly, flipping the top off hir burger to add a little brown mustard. "I don't think I've had a chance to meet you yet. I'm Rasa." Ze turns and presents a hand for shaking. "I'm a senior here. How about yourself? Or haven't you don't placement tests yet?" Ze puts the bun back on and moves down, selecting a salad instead of french fries. Ze takes a moment picking out a dressing. "Haven't yet. Though more than likely a Junior. Only a few classes I'd be able to test out of." Kaine says while picking out fries and grabbing an orange. "My name is Kaine, by the way. Awesome to meet you." He flashes an easy enough grin, adjusting his shirt lightly. "And this place looks like it'll be fabulous once it warms up. Not many people risking the lake in this cold." "Awesome, eh?" At this, Rasa smiles. Ze moves over the line and adds a small bowl of mac and cheese to hir tray before lifting it and heading off toward the beverages. "Very nice to meet you, Kane. What brings you to the Xavier Mansion in the dead of a snowy winter? The lake is indeed a bit more lively during the warmer months, when the inhabitants aren't frozen beneath the surface. I've been known to swim there myself, mostly looking for friends." "Aside from the awesome classes? Had a secondary mutation." Kaine vaguely motions towards his gills and hair. "Lot harder to hide this. But I don't have to bundle up anymore in the cold, which is a definite plus. It's not really cold, to me at least. A bit chilly, but it's comfortable." "Secondary mutation?" Rasa raises an eyebrow and grabs hirself a mug of masala chai, the fragrant spices filling the air ones it is poured out of the dispenser. Rather than setting it down immediately, ze pulls it close to hir face so ze can inhale for a moment. "Mmmm." Ze smiles to hirself before setting it on hir tray. "The classes seem pretty cool if you're not used the whole boarding school experience. They do try very hard to give us the best opportunities." Kaine gives a slight nod, moving to get a glass of water for himself. "Hopefully it'll give me a bit more experience in mechanics. Though I could probably take the test to get credits for it." He takes a sip from the water before lifting his shoulders in a shrug. "It'll be an interesting change. Not many people out in the Bush." "The Bush?" Rasa appears unfamiliar with the term, turning around to look for a place to sit. Ze moves to slide onto a seat near the end of one table, settling hir food in front of hir. Ze glances over at Kain as an invitation to join hir. "Yeah, you could probably test out of it, but if you enjoy the classes, then it might not be a bad thing to take them. But yeah. There's tons of stuff to do here." "Alaska out where the road system doesn't reach. Gotta take a bush plane or a floater to get out there." Daniel explains, settling in near Rasa. He tosses a single fry into his mouth, chewing quietly for a moment or two before continuing, "Not many people, but it's the best place to live, in my opinion at least. Clean air, nature, and wild animals that you wouldn't see anywhere else." Rasa grabs hir mug once more and cradles it between hir fingers, staring over the surface at Kaine, listening quietly. "I see. You going to be okay here? I mean, we don't have the best air, there's less nature, and well, the animals are standard for this region, I guess. Do you really get super uncommon animals up that way? I thought all the really strange ones were in Australia. Like platypuses." As he walks into the Great Hall, Tristan stops for a moment and sniffs the air. He cocks his head to the side at the scents, when his eyes move to Rasa, and then Kaine. He cocks his head to the side looking them both up and down and hmmms. He swings his backpack over his shoulder and begins to make his way towards the pair. "Well, we get the occasional whale." Kaine says after a moment of thought. "Fun fact? Saudi Arabia imports it's camels from Australia. And, I'll be fine enough. Can still swim, even right now, without much to worry about. And it's a bit of a change, but it'll be interesting." Rasa's gaze drift a little to spot the person moving closer but doesn't really look at Tristan yet, in the somewhat busy dining hall. "Imports their camels from Australia? Really? Why would they do that? I mean, they're indigenous to that region, right? It's probably just one of those random things..." Ze pulls a cell phone from hir pocket and starts to look up the information. "Have you been to the indoor pool yet? Might tide you over until the warmer months." As he smirks looking at Rasa up and down, "Excuse me. Can you tell me where the Conservatory is? I am suppose to meet someone there for a project I am suppose to do for Storm." Tristan glances over at Kaine before looking back at Rasa with a raised eyebrow waiting for her response. "It very well may be." Kaine says with a shrug, turning his attention towards Tristan. "I think, /think/, it's that way." He turns to point in the general direction of the conservatory, before looking back at Rasa. "Either way, I think it's kind of cool." "Yeah, the conservatory is just right over there," Rasa agrees with Kaine, glancing up from hir phone to make certain that he is pointing in the right direction. Ze gives a little smile before glancing down at hir phone once more. "Apparently, Australia is sending camels to Saudi Arabia, but that's because they apparently eat camels. Maybe they're running low on their own." Ze gives a little shrug and puts down hir phone, clicking off the power and turning to pick up hir burger to take a bite. Tristan gives the two a two fingered salute and runs off towards the Conservatory. He disappears as quickly as he arrives! Kaine watches the teen leave before shifting his attention back to the fries in front of him, eating a few. "I think it is because they eat camel meat now." He agrees. "Better to import them for the purpose than eat up the ones you have for other purposes. Anyway, I take it you've been enjoying your stay here?" "Or that," Rasa replies, tilting hir head to one side. "I am... um. Well. It's school. It's not necessarily a vacation locale. We come to classes here. It certainly isn't always fun. I mean, there was an entire zombie plague and then the invasion. A mutant fight ring and the giant insects... and there was the cult..." Rasa's voice grows a little tight as ze finishes, giving a small shrug. "It's a nice school." "No shit? That sounds pretty terrifying actually. I mean, I knew about the zombies and all. But the other stuff is news to me." Kaine shakes his head slightly, taking another swallow of water. "Know I wouldn't want to deal with that." His gaze moves to the water in his glass, watching it gradually freeze. "But you deal with what life throws at you." Rasa draws in a deep breath, hir skin shifting to a dark blue, hir hair turning inky black before Tristan's eyes. One shoulder lifts. "It's pretty fucking terrifying. I just... well. Can't say I'm always dealing with it, but I'm still here. Still alive." Kaine reaches over to squeeze Rasa's shoulder if ze allows it. "It sounds like it. My condolences. But, I'm here to deal with the insane stuff too, and you seem cool. You need any help dealing with it, I'm usually willing to listen, or talk, or even get hit in the face if people need to fight. " |
