Introduction
|
xxxxxPeople have been talking about the mysterious mole-man for years. It used to be the crazed rantings of a delusional book-worm. That was until Nivekh started lurking around the New York area. His cold, anti-social demeanor, combined with the handful of sightings of him emerging from or escaping to the sewers has given him the same name. Mole Man was born from a history of stigmatized repulsion. Life on the streets has taught Nivekh to look out for himself first, and then look out for himself second as well.

History
|
xxxxxNivekh was born in Norway, but immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of 5. They settled in Boston, and Nivekh joined the public school system. At the age of 10, he was in and out of the hospital and by 13 what began as mysterious pains developed into the growth of his leather plates. He was removed from the school system and referred to a school in the New York area run by a man by the name Xavier. The day Nivekh was to board the charter bus for Xavier's School for the Gifted, stress of leaving caused a spike in mutation development, and everything within 20 feet of the boy rose into the air before slamming back into the earth with exuberant force. In the damage and chaos, Nivekh managed to slip from sight, and hasn't been seen by his parents since.
xxxxxFor the remainder of his teenage years Nivekh hitchhiked the across the northeastern region, using every bout of rage to hone control over his powers. At 16 his smaller scales fell out in chunks. He picked up a grey suit from a clothing bank to cover the newly lightened disfigurement. By the end of his 18th year, however, the scales had returned, and enveloped the whole length of his back and thighs. At 20 (year 2008), he found himself in New York City. Living on the streets, the exile of mutants killed the kindness in Nivekh's heart. The presence of Friends of Humanity frightens him, and he sees them as the single greatest threat to his own survival. By age 25, Nivekh had heard rumors about a clan of stigmatized mutants living below the cityscape - the Morlocks. Moving to the abandoned subway tunnels provided Nivekh with a new sense of comradery, and a deeper detestment for what he would learn to call "the norms", people that lack the detestable features that forced hsi own kind from society. His view of the Morlock clan is limited, and his hatred for humans simmers beneath his thick skin. Most of his time is spent wandering the sewers, and the few people that have seen Nivekh above ground have nicknamed him The Mole Man.

Powers
|
xxxxxThe most obvious part of Nivekh's mutation is his thick leather armor, which dampens most melee attacks. Any bullet greater than a 9mm will pass the scales with lessened damages. Shotgun blasts destroy the scales at close range. Magnum 44 shots, as well as rifle shots and anything labeled as "armor piercing" has no problems passing the armor without loss of damage. The plates only cover the back of his body, however, and the weight of the leather slows him down. Also, average humans would see his appearance as not human at all. The plates have stopped falling out, and all of his "adult leather" is in place. It will only thicken for 2 more years, causing no major changes in speed or protection.
xxxxxThe second, more active, mutation is Nivekh's ability to control the gravitational pull on items and people. Items and people of equal or smaller mass than him take minimal concentration to effect, and if he's touching it/them concentration is only needed to control the amount of change. High levels of stress can cause this power to erupt from brief incidents, typically lasting no more than a minute or two. Items and people without contact require some concentration as well as having them in Nivekh's line of sight. If the item is moving, and the bigger it gets, the more concentration is required to affect it. With training, this could be improved, though a semi truck moving at freeway speeds would still be a difficult target. A third application for gravitational control is a radius effect. With a moderate amount of focus, everything within up to 30 feet of Nivekh would be affected. The larger the area, and given any items larger than Nivekh's body mass would require heightened concentration. While a structurally sound building won't collapse to his power, a good amount of focus could punch a hole through a wall or blow out a door from its frame.
xxxxxThere is a third mutation feature that only arises with the exertion of physical and mental force. Under strain, mustard yellow ooze seeps out from between Nivekh's scales. Along with looking disgusting, this ooze reeks of methane and ammonia, something between urine and rotten eggs. A minimal seepage of this liquid can be smelt as far as 5 feet away from its source (at 10 feet it just smells like a fart). As the ooze builds up, it can be smelt as far as 20 feet away with full potency. In these severe cases, everyone in the area would be fighting their automatic gag reflex, breaking concentration and possibly causing involuntary vomiting. When the strain stops, the ooze recedes and dries out within 10 minutes. The smell does not linger.

Brawler - Mixing the use of gravity and a complete lack of martial arts training, Nivekh has trained himself on the use of improvised weapons, and can wield almost anything with potentially deadly force.
|
Survivalist - Living on the streets has provided Nivekh with the honed skills of urban survival. Anything form being able to scavange food from trash and not becoming ill to knowing where to find any resource in the city - for free; the skills of the survivalist allow Nivekh to survive with only the items he can carry on his back or in his hands.
|
Explosive - Nivekh's powers still have the ability to get out of control. In the chao of the big city, surrounded by humans that fear and hate mutants, there is always a chance that Mole Man will snap into a spike of destructive force...if only for long enough to either drain him unconscious or allow him to flee the scene.
