<XAV> Grounds - Xs Grounds

Xavier's School is situated on grounds as luxurious as the mansion itself. The tree-lined drive brings you up to the lush green sweep of front lawn and the wide front porch with its bench swing, often frequented by students studying in pleasant weather. The large oak tree in the front yard is home to a tire swing, installed long ago beneath the sturdy old treehouse.

The lawn rolls out all the way down to the thin rocky pier at the edge of the glittering lake. The water stretches huge and wide off into the distance, the boathouse a small blip at its shore. Along its bank, forest stretches dense and shady to one side; to the other cliffs start to rise, high and rocky, providing trails for hiking or climbing, for the adventurous.

Autumn breathes crisp, clean breezes across the grounds at Xavier's School, cooling the evening more quickly than the week before. Someone (cough, cough) has set up a small tableau in honor of the new season, with stalks of colorful corn, hay bales, gourds, and pumpkins of varying sizes. Somewhat camouflaged by the large, ruffled heart shaped leaves on her head, Kieow is enjoying what she can of the setting sun before it disappears. She is settled down on the ground, bare feet digging into the ground as she kneels before a pumpkin on a hay bale, dirt ground into the knees of her jeans. She's got a knife in one hand and a marker trapped between her teeth as she readies herself to transfer the design in black on the vegetable's skin into it's flesh.

Having finished his classes for the day and ahead and his homework with some time before dinner, he decided he would take a walk to take in the quiet of the outside, a feeling he only recently started having, his nightly escape from the noise of all the static, as he had began to call it. He wore a pair of cargo pants and combat boots and a long sleeve black shirt with a yellow cat eyes and cat mouth design, he had a black hoodie tossed over it unzipped. He had along the way picked up a few leaves and stuck them in his own hair. As he walked he noticed the display and starting walking over to it. He walked to it looked it closely over, but being careful as to not disturb it. After giving it a good once over he then looked over at Kieow and waves to get her attention with a slight grin.

Kieow is humming quietly as she stares at the pumpkin. It takes her a good long minute of concentration before the blade of her knife sinks into the tough orange exterior. It's given a test tug downwards, a second one with a little more pressure, then she starts sawing gently to extend the line she is working on. When foot falls behind her catch her attention, especially after the figure waves at her, she looks up and over at him, nodding in greeting. "Care to enter the surgical theater?"

Tomas nods and leans in a bit. He pulls out a notebook and writes in it: "doing a liver transplant or something a bit more festive?" he shows the notebook to her for her to read.

Kieow looks at the notepad for a moment, reading, then looking to Tomas. As he does not offer the pen to her, she pulls the marker from her teeth and tucks it into her pocket. "Do you need me to write back?"

Tomas shakes his head, and rather then writing he signs "no i can hear" before stopping, realizing he wasn't sure if she knew sign language, he lightly taps his forehead as if to say 'duh' and wrote on the notepad "no i can hear you fine" on the notepad.

Kieow smiles brightly and nods. "Oh! Okay. Well, this is plastic surgery, though, the patient does not have a liver. I suppose it would rather creepy if it did." She pulls her knife out to make a sharp turn on the triangular eye socket. "Have you done this before?"

Tomas nods and watches as she carves the eye out. He rubs the back of his neck when she asks if he had done this before and writes: "yes but not in a few years"

"This is my first time." Kieow admits, continuing to cut into the vegetable. "We don't really do this in Thailand. But It's kind of fun to try new things."

Tomas thought for a moment trying to learn from last night's encounter,'time to get out of my bubble a bit' he thought to himself, he let out a bit of a sigh before writing in his notebook: "did you grow up in Thailand? or did you just emigrate here for school?"

"What are you sighing about?" Kieow asks as she pulls out the first chunk with her knife. The tendrils of interior guts and seeds makes the process rather messy. She turns her attention to the notebook. "Oh. Yes. I grew up in Thailand. I came here because I was dying, but stayed for school. What about you?"

Tomas twitches a bit causing a small amount of static to emit from the phone in his pocket when she asks what he was sighing about and the mention of her dying, he shakes his head trying to shake the thought off, he pulls out his necklace from under his shirt, a gold ring on a chain, he sucks on the ring and writes more in the notebook: "Me and my aunt moved here from Colorado when i got accepted, she's a lawyer so she was able to find work in New York." he shows her the notebook still chewing on the necklace his posture is a little more tense.

"Oh, well, that's good. It's nice to have family near by. My brothers live in the city. I don't know what I'd do if I was just... here here without someone. I've always had nearby family." Kieow considers quietly and then starts on another eye socket, digging a seed out from the old one to chew on.

Tomas nodded and grinned a bit spitting out the necklace before writing in his notebook: "I didn't get your name, I'm Tomas" He showed him the notebook. Tomas then dug thru the satchel bag on his hip and pulled out a spoon he had acquired from the kitchen, it is covered in some pudding, he licks the spoon to clean it off before making a yuck gesture and scrubbing it off on his shirt as best he can, which isn't well considering the pudding was dried on. Once the spoon was clean, or at least cleaner, he used it to help Kieow dig the eye out.

"Kieow," she replies, switching her knife into her other hand to shake in greeting, but the limb goes limp as he takes out a dirty spoon and starts licking it. "Huh," she considers as she shuffles a little to the side when Tomas starts in on the pumpkin she was working on. "Well. You know what we need? Bowls... spoons, and maybe more knives." She gets to her feet and gently shakes the dirt off of them. "I'll be right back," she starts, but then looks at the sun's position in the sky. "Actually, I'll be back after dinner. Gotta eat, you know," she positively buzzing with the prospect. "See you later?"

Tomas stands up with her, he doesn't think anything of her extending her arm, he just smiles and nods writing: "Nice to meet you Kieow, see you around" and gave her a wave.
