Ash, Ion

In Absentia

"{This is the one we're keeping, right?}"

Location

<NYC> Freaktown - Riverdale, Bronx

It's a quiet stretch of a quiet street, here, large stately homes on a tree-lined lane not far from the almost preciously quaint stretch of shops along the Fieldston historic district. Early in the evening, a motorcycle's thrum disrupts the peace -- though not quite as much as might be expected. Ion's sleek bike purrs rather than roars, slipping up the street towards a large Tudor, all its lights off, doors and windows boarded, the FORECLOSURE sign out front weather-faded.

He doesn't park. Just drives straight for the closed garage doors, looming large in front of them until juuust about the point of impact. The motorcycle vanishes; the world goes briefly painful and black. When they've snapped back into life a second later, it's in a dusty cavernous garage, empty and dark.

Ash pulls off his helmet and squints his eyes to try to adjust to the darker settings. he swings a leg off of the bike and gets his feet underneath him, his form relaxing in the dim light when his powers feel things out for him. "Ohhhh. This is biiig. Dunno If I've ever been in a house this big." He places his helmet more or less where he had been sitting on the bike and turns around slow. "So... {the power still on? or are we in the dark the entire time?}"

Ion kills the engine and hops off the bike, arms stretching out wide with a soft creak of leather. In the stale darkness, the skeptical lift of his eyebrows is likely harder to catch; what is easier is the dismissive click of his cheeks against his teeth, the light affront in his voice. "{Boy --}" His hand is clapping to Ash's shoulder with another small pop of static; a moment later they're in an equally chill and dark kitchen. "{Who you here with? Why you ask stupid-ass questions.}" He rests a hand back on the wall they just came through, palm hovering over the light switch a moment before he flicks it, flooding the room brighter. "Big-big, huh. We need some big. {Not sure on the plumbing. They killed the power, maybe that too.}"

"{What, you just expect people to sit around in the dark because you want to go out one night? Ain't nobody keeping you sitting around the house, Ion.}" Ash starts to move away from his friend and examine the kitchen, opening the cabinets and peeks into each one in succession. "{This is soo good. We can cook some good shit here.}"

"{The fuck you on about.}" There's a flatness to Ion's tone that suggests he doesn't, actually, care if this is answered. He's trying the taps first -- nothing -- before the stove. Also nothing. "{Need some work to get there, but yeah.}"

"{Nothing, nothing,}" Ash admits sheepishly before heading for the nearest window to cup his hands to the sides of his face so he can peek outside. "{Just getting excited. Guess I just wanted to move in like... immediately.}" He straightens up and turns back to Ion. "{This is the one we're keeping, right?}"

"{You want to move in now, I'm not gonna stop you. Be good to have your help when we getting this all patched up.}" Ion drums his hands rapidly against the countertop, eyes flicking around the kitchen. "{Shit, I think we aiming for a few. Looks good though, no? Not so sure on the neighborhood but what you gonna do.}"

"{Take over the whole neighborhood?}" Ash laughs, answering the rhetorical question as he looks the place over again. "{Ha! Just have a bunch of super posh places like this would be awesome. Also better for us if we didn't have to be too far apart. Can you imagine? -- Anyway, what all did you have in mind for here? I'm going to get to use all my sweet construction skills.}"

Ion's laughter here is bright. "{Shit, why not. Who says we gotta stop with one mansion.}" His head is shaking as he joins Ash at the window. "{Think the people living in them other houses might have a thought about it, though.}" He slings his arm around Ash's shoulder, pulling him away toward the door to the living room. "{Dunno! Let's see what she needs, huh? Soon we gonna be the Brotherhood of Fancy Mutants.}"
