Had no idea people would be so glad to have ragweed around.

Location

<XAV> Foyer - Xs First Floor

Xavier's foyer provides a suitable introduction to the opulent mansion. Teak-paneled, wood floors immaculately polished, vaulted ceiling ribbed with dark wood boning, there is no doubt this school was built with no expense spared. The hallways branch off to the separate wings, with the grand staircase spiraling upwards to the residential dorms above.

After a day of classes Remi was a lot more tired than he thought he'd be. It was only Thursday but he felt like this week was never ending. Most likely because on top of his classes he was meeting so many new people, trying to figure out his powers and he was still waiting on the shipment of home comforts his parents had sent.

He had donned his comfortable clothes, a pair of grey sweats and another one of his ridiculously large jumpers. This one had a picture of a tie-dye design with the primary colours of red and purple, it wasn't his normal style but it was by far the comfiest thing he owned.

Walking down the grand staircase, on a little mini-adventure around the school grounds Remi passed many students and teachers alike, smiling at them as he did. So many people and he'd talked to....about 5 people, excluding his teachers so far. It was exhausting but he'd keep up his smile just in case!

Clad in layers upon layers of heavily brocaded fabric, stands near the base of the staircase, smelling of an earthy cedar and green needles. Her skin is covered in bark and has tree branches for hair, spread out across her skull in a thick pattern that frames her face and hangs down around her shoulders. Her bright green eyes study a notecard in wooden fingers, lips moving around the words she is committing to memory. She glances to the side and takes in the movement nearby, studying the rather cosy looking humanoid before tucking that notecard back into the text book she is holding. "You're new, aren't you?"

Towering over the other students at just over seven feet tall is Beau, currently making his own way down the stairs. At first glance most newer students would take him for a faculty member, but the thick canvas backpack slung over his shoulder says otherwise. "Mmm, can't rightly say I've seen them around before." he rumbles out to Kieow, looking down at Remi.

He's dressed in a red flannel shirt tucked into a pair of worn denim jeans, the belt around his waist has a large bronze rattlesnake buckle.

Remi snapped back into reality as he hears two new voices. "Huh? o-oh! Yeh, Hiya! I'm Remi, nice to meet you. I was just trying to get used to wandering around and familiarising myself with the lay of the land and stuff" he bowed slightly to the two of them, his long hair falling from behind his ear.

He had gone into his semi-robotic greeting mode and not even noticed that the girl talking to him was seemingly made of bark and that deep, rumbly voice was from so high up he might need sunglasses to look at him. He was slightly taken a back and couldn't stop his eyes from appreciating that leaves and petals could be considered hair for the bark girl and smiled at that thought.

"it's....nice to meet you!" he stumbled out as he craned his neck upwards to say hello to large boy. "And you of course! I love your....umm....branches? I'm sorry if that's offensive!" way to go Remi.

"You can call me Kieow. Everyone does." The tree girl shuffles her book between her forearm and her chest before pressing her palms together and giving Remi a wai. "Welcome." She readjusts once more, moving everything back to one arm, then reaches up and takes a handful of the needles to pull them forward. "Oh. Thank you. Sometimes they can get dry and brown, but I guess i'm doing well with the hydrating today. And you can call it hair if the term helps. Leaves, needles... green stuff. I don't really mind." She glances over at Beau and smiles. "That's Beau."

Beau raises his hand and wiggles his fingers down at Remi. "Howdy, I'm Beau." he repeats, a small grin on his face. "Good to meet you Remi." His attention moves back up to Kieow and the same hand he had raised flops over dismissively, "No need to be so modest, you always look good."

Nods to himself, his gaze seemingly inward as he commits their names to memory. "Beau and Kieow, i'll definitely remember you both! How were your days so far? I finished class and went straight back to my room to drop my books off, carrying textbooks around in a backpack is terrible for your back you know, I should talk to them about getting us all trollies so we can minimise shoulder and back pain..."

"Oh, don't challenge me, Beau. I'll pull some ragweed out just to prove you wrong." Kieow's grin is wide and bemused, her fingers brushing some the green bits behind her ear. "But I do have the unfair advantage of looking like nature - which has been declared beautiful for ages" She shrugs and turns back to Remi. "Don't worry about remembering everything your first day. There's a lot to remember. And the day's fine. Ready for the weekend. Anxious to get back to my brother in the City."

"Really? Thought it was a little light, but I might not be the best judge of that." Beau raises and lowers the shoulder bearing the weight of his backpack. "I don't mind ragweed all that much, reminds me of home." He pauses then, almost like he hadn't really thought about how the day was. "Yeah, day was fine." he agrees. "Really though any day we don't just up and vanish into the rift is a good one." despite the lightness in his tone his eyes go distant for a moment, clearly someplace he'd rather not be.

"i-uh ... huh?!" he'd noticed that the majority of the mutant kids he'd met here seemed to have a kind of.....odd view on life. "Well, I don't know about any sort of rifts but any day is a good day if you have a smile on your face and a snack on hand!" Remi reached into his hoodie and pulled out a pouch on a string. Undoing the knot he pulled out two lollipops and handed them towards his to new friends, "If you don't like sweet stuff, I promise i'll remember it for next time!" he chuckled.

Remi then turned to Kieow specifically. "You know, if you can grow ragweed and wouldn't mind sharing some i'd love it if we can come to some sort of arrangement!" his eyes gleamed with excitement. "It's an amazing astringent and is really good as a natural fever remedy too!" he almost did a little giddy hop on the spot as he thought how good it would be for Spencer's bruising.

"Oh, uh. Okay. Had no idea people would be so glad to have ragweed around." Kieow shakes her head and turns back to Remi to explain. "Uh, you remember the rift? It was a big thing in NYC two years ago. Well, a bunch of us students were having a bonfire out by the lake. I went to grab something... but when I got back everyone was gone. It was traumatizing for a lot of people."

"Oh boy. It was 'fucked'. Let me tell you I was useless, was an anxious mess." Beau doesn't look down at the others, his eyes going distant again as he remembers the field trip. "One minute you're out sneaking a drink with the upperclassmen and the next you're out trying to outpace sentinels and surviving in the woods. Let me tell you Suzanne Collins does not prepare you for seeing a corpse." The light comes back to his eyes and he slow blinks, realizing a moment to late that he was perhaps oversharing. "Was a one in a million freak accident though, nothing you should be too worried about. They do a pretty good job of keeping us safe here."

Remi bows his head solemnly, "I'm so sorry Beau, I had no idea that was even real, let alone how you guys must have felt being directly involved in it." he wanted to give a reassuring hug but he'd just met Beau and that must have been some intense trauma that probably didn't warrant physical affection right now.

"Thank you for opening up to me about it though, I know i'm new around here but I hope we can be fast friends. I have an extensive first-aid kit and an endless supply of biology knowledge and snacks so feel free to come find me in the dorms if I can help or if you'd like an ear to bend! That goes for you too Kieow." he smiled, deciding he should probably change the subject. "But yeh-umm, ragweed. I wanna be a nurse and while modern medicine is pretty advanced nowadays, some herbs and home treatments still work wonders! Ragweed is super good for bruises, sure it's not the nicest to deal with but it tightens the skin and reduces bleeding. You can even use it for a face tightening mask. Though....I'm not sure if that would be necessary with your bark" he said with a smile

"You know..." Kieow starts out quietly, searching Remi's face then glancing back at Beau, "you don't have to be useful to be a friend. Sometimes, it's just a matter of shared experience as well as positive interactions." She raises a hand to scratch under her 'hair,' gaze shifting off to the distance. "But thank you for all of the information. I'm not sure exactly what I'll need, as I'm kind of a plant. Stuff that works on meat people doesn't always do stuff for me."

“That’s fair.” Beau says with a slow exhale. “Most people didn’t know it was real, so it’s nothing to feel bad about. Sera, one of the other students you might meet, she came back with us from over there. I’d be kinda careful about it if you bring it up though, just to be safe.”

"that's true. I just get a little bit restless if i'm not helping. It's what i'm good at, I suppose!" he chuckled and then noddded at Beau, that same, wide smile on his face. "I'll add it to my memory bank as taboo topics only to come up when absolutely necessary." he tapped his temple with his index finger and a wink. "no problem about the information, I'm not really any good with social shit so a lot of the time i just end up regurgitating information I learn in my textbooks" he giggled.

"Oh. Taboo, eh? Hmmm. I guess. I mean... it's been over a year and I'm ... just recently starting to deal with my own trauma." Kieow nods sagely her eyes out of focus as she wets her lips with a curiously whitish tongue. "Social shit is hard and I both don't like it and feel the need to keep practicing. SO!" sudden subject change, Go! "What all have you done here, so far?"

“Not sure if it’s strictly taboo, just can be a bit touchy. I imagine leaving my family for a slightly different alternate universe version.” Beau stops to think for a moment before shaking his head, “Actually that might be an improvement. Pretty sure my college fund got spent on a boat after I blew up.” He raises his shoulders in a shrug before looking back to Remi as Kieow addresses him.

"What have I done here? Honestly....Not much at all! I just started going about my classes like any normal school, though I have taken to wandering around campus until i'm comfortable making my way around without the little map on my phone. There was some trouble with my room assignment but I eventually got settled in with Spencer and patched up a bruise he had. Other than that, not much really! I would like to go exploring off campus at some point though!" he made a note in his phone to remember to explore and then tapped his phone with a smile. Now, he wouldn't forget.
