I don't know where I'm going, but its better than here.
Introduction

xxxxxNow more grown and comfortable, Faelan is no longer the scared boy he had been before. More confident due to his training, the young man is becoming far more capable as time progresses, with a desire to survive through whatever the future calls for.

History

xxxxxFewer places are as middle of nowhere as Iowa, but even the middle of nowhere is a harsh place when you aren't athletic, handsome, or socially adept. Faelan fell into the category of being social pariah since he was young, being smaller and more clumsy than the wide variety of corn fed farm boys that he went to school with, and he wasn't the best or brightest at anything. As the years went by, it just led to him being the one picked on, and he just tended to hide in the back of class and did his best to be left alone.

Puberty just made things worse, as on top of the social awkwardness and in general shyness, hormones raged and ravaged the minds and bodies of the children, as well as awakened things within them that they had previously never discovered about themselves. This led to Faelan receiving yet worse than before, as shunning and mockery extended into physical violence and he visited the nurses office and had more bruises and black eyes than he could ever hope for, until his every day at school was miserable, as whatever his parents and teachers did, the matters never changed. One day when he was receiving his weekly beating, his fear and suffering surged through him and his dormant x gene finally awoke, unleashing its power upon his tormentors.

When he finally came out of his crying enough to realize that his tormentors were gone, he couldn't quite figure what had happened. He hadn't heard them go away, and they hadn't been chased off by anything. They were just gone, though he figured it was possible that he just hadn't noticed. The next days when he had gone back to classes, they still had been missing. It wasn't till the end of the week that word had been heard of any of them, and after phone calls had come in from around the world, angry parents had come to his home banging at the door with pitchforks and torches to get the mutie!

His own parents were afraid of him, and as they pushed their middle school child out the door into the waiting arms of the mob, his untrained powers kicked into overdrive, the house disappearing, various mob members ceasing to be there as torches fell, and finally as it became too much, he simply was gone.

Faelan woke up in a city he didn't know, with people he couldn't understand. He couldn't have told the difference between Zimbabwe and Timbuktu, and the more he was scared, the faster he kept blinking through the world until he was too exhausted, both mentally and physically, to go anywhere else. Sitting in some forest, under a night sky he sat crying and alone, as a voice filled his mind, promising comfort and care. The calming presence kept his mind from feeling the terror as a jet he couldn't recognize hovered overhead and odd looking people in weird outfits descended via ropes to recover him.

The Xavier Institute was as well protected and as calming of a place as his fragile mind could ask for, as he received the therapy that he would need to make up for years of problems his life had provided him. Yet it also gave him the education that powers like his would force upon him whether he wanted it or not. Geography, navigation, astronomy and survival skills were prioritized for him, as he would need them if his powers triggered on himself. After years of training there, he still avoided time in the danger room as much as he could, his instructors concerned about where he, other students, or their equipment might end up under stress events. He could be a danger to himself or others after all, and it was slow going in making progress controlling it. Still he couldn't ask for a better place to be, and he probably wouldn't even be alive today without the training he’s received. Now if only some day he will cease to be failing or lost, then he may be a valuable member of the team, and not just a danger.

Skills

General Xavier Institute education.

Weak combat ability, with an emphasis on evasion.

Excellent training in general survival skills, from finding food, swimming and navigation.

He can ask for help, for a radio or a telephone in multiple languages.

Running, hiding, and being very very quiet.

Powers

Teleportation of self, objects, others.

Faelan is capable of sending himself, others, and objects away from their current location. Unfortunately, psychological locks prevent him from having much control over the final location of the teleported subjects, whether it it himself or others. The stronger the emotion he is feeling at the time tends to cause the subject to be sent further away. When calm, he can at least keep things in the same city block but when terrified, it could be anywhere in the hemisphere. The target must be within a yard to be be teleported, and he must be able to see it clearly, so invisible or super fast objects cannot be teleported. This teleportation is one of the more subtle varieties, without any loud pops or flashes of light, as it provides a volumetric shift of air between end location and where the subject originated preventing any sudden noises from displacement. An individual with a strong sense of smell may be able to identify the target jump location by the residual scent.

His teleportation seems to be fueled for the most part by adrenaline, and the farthest of his jumps have been performed in frightened or angry states. Multiple teleports in a row will tire him out, and doing more than a half dozen in a row tends to exhaust his capabilities. With rest, the ability recovers and he seems no worse the wear from it over long term.

Teleportation of groups is possible as long as all members of the group are within range. The most difficult part of a teleport seems to be in keeping the group together, and the effort of keeping a large group together has caused him to pass out before. It is made slightly easier if the group maintains physical contact with each other, though the teleportation field might incorporate unexpected additions. Scattering the group however seems no more strenuous than a normal teleport however as his subconscious controls the finer details of quantum entanglement.

The largest thing teleported thus far was a semi truck that was about to run him over after another ‘port landed him in the middle of a highway. He cannot teleport discrete portions of whole items, for example removing someone’s arm or hand, though if an object is simply screwed on it is a separate object. With his subconscious controlling the safety of his teleportations, he cannot teleport things into other objects, so any landing site has enough room to physically fit the entire item. He also will not teleport things midair, always setting the object on a “surface” of the landing site, though buoyancy will still kick in and sink objects into water if it lands on the surface of it. Inertia is not preserved in a teleportation event, and a teleported object does not continue with its original motion, whether it was falling from a great height, or driving down the road rapidly.

As long as Faelan remains within his range radius of the teleportation site, and/or the teleported subject remains within that same range of where it ends up., he can “Recall” the teleportation, restoring the teleported person/object to its original position. This would allow him to return to where he teleported in case of an accidental jump, or to put a thing back in place from where he sent it. This recall can only happen within a few seconds of the teleportation as the field continues to remain intact.

Through practice he has been able to establish some minor control over the final destination, but only when able to see where he intends to go. Knowing a location isn’t enough, he has to be able to see exactly where he is intending to go, so a closed door is enough make him unable to teleport into his own room. However, if he is looking through a window at a spot he can make it to the spot. His accuracy is still somewhat tenuous, hitting the exact spot the majority of the time, but even on a miss it is only a few feet away at most to a safe spot.

Total Invisibility of himself, other objects or individuals.

Faelan is capable of using the same teleportation field that can send things away, to simply send light around an object instead. The target must be within a yard to be made invisible, and as with teleportation, he must be able to see the subject clearly. He cannot see the things he has made invisible, though with practice he has become able to sense its general position as long as it is within his range. While unable to simply will the invisible to be seen again, he is able to reabsorb the field as long as he is able to establish physical contact with it.

The field that covers the object is fairly thorough, as it teleports the light around the entire object, so an invisible car conceals its occupants, but a cloak made invisible would simply be invisible conveying no concealment to the person wearing it. The largest item he was ever able to turn invisible was a rancher house, but he usually does not make things larger than a car disappear.

The field does seem to have a finite duration as that which is invisible will become seen eventually without him needing to interact with it again. Smaller objects will only remain invisible up to a day, but he cannot keep a very large object invisible for more than a minute. Invisibility seems far less strenuous to Faelan than teleportation though and he can keep a dozen objects invisible at once, though he cannot do any more until he’s absorbed the existing fields or allowed to dissipate what already is unseen.

One might expect invisible subjects from being unable to see from the other side of the field as light would not pass through to be visibly interpreted, yet this does not seem to be the case for those made invisible. Whether this is due the probability waveform going uncollapsed, through observation expectancy results, the dual nature of photons, or merely the unpredictable nature of mutant powers remains to be seen.
